This page is general information only, not legal advice and not a permit. Rules change often and each state's permit and official rules are the final word. Tall and heavy loads

Keep the height down

Big generators and their enclosures are often tall as well as heavy. In Ohio, anything over 8'6"W, 13'6"H or 80,000 lbs gross needs an ODOT permit, so carrying the unit low in a well or perimeter trailer keeps the height down and the route open. Our permitting team plans the route around every height and width limit, and our own escorts and utility bucket trucks run with the load.

How we move a generator in Ohio

Haul, hold if needed, deliver

Height drives most generator routes, so the trailer choice and the route are planned together. If the site is not ready, the unit can wait in our Dayton yard.

Step 01

ODOT permit and routing

Our in house team files the ODOT permit and every other state and province on the route, and every route is reviewed turn by turn with the driver before the move.

Step 02

Engineered load plan

Load plans are engineered with industry engineering partners and trailer manufacturers, then matched to the right setup from our fleet.

Step 03

Storage in Dayton if the site is not ready

We haul gensets into our 14 acre yard in Dayton, fenced and gated with cameras and lighting, offload them and keep them stored and insured until your crew is ready.

Step 04

Delivery and tracking

Samsara GPS and a dash cam on every truck, with a live share link on request, so your site team knows where the load is until it is set down.

Questions

Ohio generator questions

Do you haul generators and gensets in Ohio?

Yes. Our office and yard are at 7660 W Third St in Dayton, and we haul generators and enclosures across Ohio, the USA and Canada.

Can you store gensets before delivery?

Yes. We haul them to our 14 acre yard in Dayton, fenced and gated with cameras and lighting, keep them stored and insured, then deliver when your site is ready.

Why carry a generator in a well trailer?

A well trailer carries the load low between the front and rear axle groups, which keeps the overall height down so the route can clear bridges and wires.

When does a wide genset need an escort in Ohio?

Over 13'W, one lead escort, or one rear escort on multiple lane highways. Over 12'W, the load also stops at 3 p.m. on weekends and stays off the road at rush hour in the 22 listed counties.

What do you need for a quote?

The weight and dimensions as the unit will ship, pickup and delivery points, your dates, and drawings or photos if you have them.
