How Nevada sizes up a heavy load
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) issues over dimensional vehicle permits from its Carson City office and its online permit system, under NRS Chapter 484D and the NDOT rules in NAC 484D.500 to 484D.695. These are the numbers we plan every Nevada load with. Run your exact load and route through our permit tool to see every state on the trip.

Nevada limits
Nevada legal limits and permit thresholds

Pilot car rules come from NAC 484D.670 and the NDOT pilot car guidelines, which cover non holiday daylight travel. The permit lists the pilot cars for each move and overrides the general table. (NDOT pilot car guidelines, NAC 484D.670)
Height and routes
Route surveys, tall loads and utilities
What Nevada asks of the tallest loads.
Clearance pole
Over 15'6"H, the lead pilot car carries a clearance pole. (NDOT pilot car guidelines, NAC 484D.670)
Single trip height
A single trip permit covers loads up to 15'H unless NDOT specifically approves more. (NAC 484D.655, Adopted Regulation R157-18)
Route survey
For a load 18'H or more, or 20'W or more, NDOT may require the trucking company to survey the route before the permit is issued, covering the safety of the route, where obstructions may be and a plan to remove or adjust them. NDOT lists loads over 18'H as super loads with a route survey required. (NAC 484D.645, Adopted Regulation R157-18, NDOT Over Dimensional Vehicles)
Very wide loads
Loads up to 26'W move only where the road and traffic allow it, and the load may need to be made smaller. (NAC 484D.645, Adopted Regulation R157-18)
Travel times
Travel hours, nights, weekends and holidays
When a permitted load may move in Nevada.
Hours
No travel during hours of darkness, from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise, unless the permit or NDOT instructions allow it. (NAC 484D.640, NAC 484D.530, NDOT holiday travel restrictions)

Superloads
Nevada superloads
NDOT treats a load over 17'W on two or three lane roads, over 19'W on four or more lanes, or over 18'H as a super load. The request goes in at least 10 business days before the move. For these loads NDOT may require an extra pilot car, utility escorts and law enforcement traffic control, and from 18'H or 20'W it may require a route survey before the permit is issued.
