The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) issues oversize and overweight permits under WYDOT Rules Chapter 5, Size and Weight Limitations of Vehicles. These are the numbers we plan every Wyoming load with. Run your exact load and route through our permit tool to see every state on the trip.

Escorts

Wyoming escort requirements

Wyoming sets escorts by width, length and rear overhang, and by the type of highway.

LoadEscorts
14'W or wider, two lane highwaysOne front and one rear (WYDOT Rules Chapter 5, Wyoming Highway Patrol, commercial carrier rules)
110'L or longer, two lane highwaysOne front and one rear (WYDOT Rules Chapter 5, Wyoming Highway Patrol, commercial carrier rules)
Any part of the load left of the centerline, two lane highwaysOne front and one rear (WYDOT Rules Chapter 5, Wyoming Highway Patrol, commercial carrier rules)

Escort rules come from WYDOT Rules Chapter 5, Section 8, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol escort rules. The Highway Patrol leaves escorts for height, and for length on interstates, to the approving authority, so the permit sets them. Height and routes

Route surveys, tall loads and utilities

What Wyoming asks of the tallest loads.

  1. Super load height

Over 17'H, the load moves on a Class A super load permit approved by the WHP Overweight Loads Office. (WYDOT Rules Chapter 5, Wyoming Highway Patrol, commercial carrier rules)

  2. Night travel

The interstate night allowance covers loads up to 10'W only; wider loads move in daylight. (WYDOT Rules Chapter 5, Wyoming Highway Patrol, commercial carrier rules)

Superloads

Wyoming superloads

A Wyoming super load is a load over the Class B and C limits: 18'W, 17'H, 120'L or 160,000 lbs gross. It moves on a Class A permit, approved only by the WHP Overweight Loads Office, with the conditions the office sets. (WYDOT Rules Chapter 5, Wyoming Highway Patrol, commercial carrier rules)
