Indiana permit questions
What are the legal size and weight limits in Indiana?

When does Indiana require escorts?
Over 12'4"W, over 110'L or over 14'6"H: 1 escort, in front on undivided roads and behind on divided highways. Over 14'4"W up to 17'W: 1 rear escort on dual lane divided highways and 2 escorts on all other roads.
When are police escorts required in Indiana?
Over 17'W, at least front and rear police escorts are required. For heavy loads over 200,000 lbs, check with the state for Indiana State Police escort needs.
Does Indiana require a height stick?
Yes. Over 14'6"H, the front escort carries a height stick. Over 15'H, a signal contractor with a bucket truck goes with the load off the interstate, and over 17'H a route survey is required.
Can oversize loads move at night in Indiana?
Only smaller loads. Up to 110'L, 10'W and 13'6"H, and under 200,000 lbs, a load may move 24/7. Larger loads move in daylight, from one half hour before sunrise to one half hour after sunset, or 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the largest.
Can oversize loads move on weekends in Indiana?
Loads up to 14'4"W and 15'H may move 7 days a week. Over 14'4"W, over 15'H or over 200,000 lbs, loads move Monday through Friday only.
What is a superload in Indiana?
A load over 16'W, 110'L, 15'H or 120,000 lbs. A regular Indiana permit covers loads up to those limits, and a single trip permit is valid for 15 days.
Does the Indiana permit cover county roads?
No. The state permit does not cover county roads or city streets, so those legs need permission from the local authority.
