How we plan an Alaska load
Every Alaska move starts with a permit from the Alaska DOT&PF Commercial Vehicle Customer Service Center. Our permitting team checks the size, weight and route against the Alaska permit manual, then sets the pilot cars and travel windows the permit calls for.
Alaska sets pilot cars by width, length, overhang and height. Over 10'6"W one pilot car runs with the load, over 12'W two, over 14'W three and over 18'W four. Combinations over 85'L take one, over 100'L two and over 150'L three.
Tall loads over 17'H run behind a front pilot car with a height pole on every route, and on the Glenn Highway from milepost 0 to 27 the pole starts over 16'6"H. Holiday travel limits apply around Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. Our 22 axle setups carry loads up to 300,000 lbs.
